Norma Ross

Norma Ross is a certified psychoanalyst who specializes in relationships-couples-parents-children. She has studied business, education, counseling and psychoanalysis. She is the Director of the Rockland Institute for Psychotherapy, which offers Certificate Programs in Psychotherapy, Hypnosis, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Education, and now is offering a new Parenting Certificate. She is also the President of International University for Graduate Studies, a post graduate degree program which specializes in helping professionals create their own graduate portfolios and she has personally developed programs in Mental Health, Business, Education, and Parenting.

Over her career she has worked closely with Dr. Hyman Spotnitz, noted psychoanalyst, psychiatrist, and neurologist whose presentation in March 1973 on "The Role of the Father" influenced her personal and professional life dramatically. Dr. Spotnitz has served as her colleague and mentor throughout her career. She devotes her time helping people reach their goals and maximizing their potential. Often she is the coach or the negotiator between parents and/or parent and child. Her expertise in the field of parenting comes not only from extensive training but also from a certain type of practice, which she has developed over the years.

Her training and experience in counseling and family dynamics, coupled with her background in business (she has a four year Commerce degree along with degrees in Education, Psychoanalysis and Counseling) has helped her hone her technique and skills in negotiations between parent and child, and partners.
This experience has led to the creation of a company called Smart Parenting Solutions which specializes in creating workshops and seminars for parents, schools, and corporations in parenting skills and also disseminates information for the public about issues facing parents today. Smart Parenting Solutions is made up of consultants in the fields of medicine, fitness, nutrition, pediatrics, alcohol and drug abuse, learning specialists and more whose focus is on parenting and improving the dynamic of the family.

Her practical experience has also provided the material for the first book in the Smart Parenting series, "You Can Say No and Your Child Will Still Love You!". She is currently compiling an informational guide for parents and one for children as part of the Smart Parenting Book series.
